Hybrid SUV Reviews: Yukon Hybrid "World’s First Hybrid SUV"

Hybrid SUV Reviews: GMC - 2008 Yukon Hybrid World’s First Hybrid SUV

A Google search for “hybrid suv” included a newcomer in the top 10 results this week, and the title really got my attention. GMC - 2008 Yukon Hybrid | World’s First Hybrid SUV . Now that’s false advertising clever marketing, and although a more appropriate title might have been “GMC’s First Hybrid SUV”…upon further research we decided that this clever omission of truth was only due to headline contraints, later corrected to read “world’s first two mode hybrid suv”.

Following the link we learned that the hybrid Yukon will be available in late 2007 (are they serious?) and we were greated with a fun slogan…wait for it…Conservation without Compromise. Now that is powerful! The green ‘08 Yukon apparently delivers a 50% improvement in city fuel economy - based on an estimated 21 mpg for the 2WD hybrid Yukon compared to only 14 mpg (city) for it’s gas-only sibling. (It wasn’t as obvious that the hybrid version also improves highway mileage by 10%, getting 22 mpg vs. 20 for it’s more gassy brother.)

Other interesting facts were found under the Features tab, where we discovered that the 2008 Yukon hybrid will only be available in the short wheelbase model (not the Yukon XL, Yukon Denali, or Yukon Denali XL), and the ‘08 version will include just one trim level. That being read, the standard features are quite impressive and include leather, navigation, rear-view camera, Onstar, XM, and much more.

Although it won’t be the world’s first review, when more news becomes available on this full-sized hybrid suv, we’ll update our information as well. Yukon bet on it!
